Getting It: Mercedes-Benz Tweet Race to the Big Game
Contributed by Rick DeVan on December 16, 2010 at 6:32 pm ET
Mercedes-Benz USA is sponsoring a “race” to Super Bowl XLV in Dallas, Texas. Teams will need to complete a series of challenges along the way and also get as many tweets as possible. What the challenges are they are not saying yet and there may be more to it than that, according to a post by MBtweetraceHQ on the Facebook page comments.
More info at Mercedes-Benz USA Facebook page and on Twitter at MBtweetraceHQ.
I won’t be applying because, geez, I have about 100 followers on Twitter and unless I get each of them to tweet 10,000 times a day, well… you get the picture. I’ll be following, though.

Reporters and editors, figuring the old ship was sinking, say it makes sense to try a new one, however uncertain the voyage.
And…
Still, there’s a broad recognition that community engagement is vital to success on the Web, and this reflects one way to foster it.

It may work, it may not work, but it is worth a try. Every success story starts with try. Every failure, too, to be realistic, but you also fail by doing nothing.
I suspect every “print-journalism-is-dead” Web g*ru1 with have an opinion on this, mostly negative. Fact of the matter is, you gotta try, and they are actually fostering involvement at the source, which is rare even on the Web.
They deserve a “Getting It” because they are trying to get the most out of our technology and the changes happening in our society.
1: I refuse to use that word unless I am talking about a real guru.

“I’m of two minds, truthfully,” he said. “I grew up in a world where we were told: ‘You guys dance. Just dance, don’t talk.’ But on the other hand, we live in a different world. The public really wants to know people.”

Yay! This is where what I call “the love” comes into play. If you love your work or are at least very proud of what you do, no matter what your job, “the love” will come through when you talk about it and people will notice. Yes, this bit of wisdom is as old as the Appalachian Mountains, but old wisdom is usually good wisdom.
