Resource: Seventh U.S. state is fourth to head to the cloud
Maryland joins the ranks of Oregon, Colorado and Iowa, who each enabled their educational institutions to
“go Google” under one statewide agreement. And more than 8 million other students, staff and faculty across the globe actively use our free messaging and collaboration suite.
More good.

Thriv’Able Special: Ethics
Contributed by Rick DeVan on August 8, 2010 at 7:00 am ET
I have previously posted about DalaiLama on Twitter in S’M Tuesday (I): Your Tweets Will Never Be This Good.
The guy just keeps on topping himself.
Where love of one’s neighbor, affection, kindness, and compassion live, we find that ethical conduct is automatic.
That says it all.
P.S. Somehow I think DalaiLama will appreciate being referred to as “the guy”.

Future: In the Year 2020…
Contributed by Rick DeVan on July 11, 2010 at 7:00 am ET
Resource: The Internet in 2020 — Predictions We Can Count On
I generally don’t like predictions, although I think it is important to look at trends. As usual with anything to do with the Internet, some of the numbers are so big that they are incomprehensible (and therefore useless) to the common user.
Just a few comments. We use way too much electricity, probably without even thinking about it. I chart the gas mileage of my vehicle and make sure it is tuned-up and the tires are properly inflated. I turn off lights when not in use. I don’t let the water run unnecessarily. I rarely think of the amount of electricity used in preparing, uploading, and reading this blog. I create websites that are as fast as possible with a minimal amount of coding, but that is mainly for usability, not conservation. Green electricity or not, it is still a resource.
My other comment is, please, can we stop using the word “hackers”? Call them what they really are: “terrorists”. The experts say the risk of a cyber attack on the electric grid is real. Very real. (Resource: NERC – High-Impact, Low-Frequency
