The far-reaching Gulf oil spill tragedy has left many people feeling powerless to help out. But beyond the official Deep Horizon response, pockets of non-profits and people are starting to use social media tools to organize grassroots activities throughout the Gulf region.

Even though it is impossible to predict disasters, I would like to see some sort of system be put in place so the grassroots work can get started immediately.

Thriv’Able Thursday (I): Peak Water

Are we running out of water? No, Gleick and Palaniappan argue we will not “run out” of water on earth — but we are very close to using much of the renewable supply and in some regions we are well past the point of peak ecological water — where the environmental damage of human use of water exceeds the benefits of that water use.

I hope there is a way we can use our technology to stop this trend.

S’M Tuesday (II): FourSquare Accelerating
