Cable providers and box manufacturers like Cisco Systems, Samsung and Motorola currently do not feel consumer pressure to improve box efficiency. Customers are generally unaware of the problem — they do not know to blame the unobtrusive little device for the rise in their electricity bills, and do not choose their boxes anyway.

Change this.

Resource: Why Connected TV Is Poised To Revolutionize Entertainment via Mashable.

While mobile has dominated the headlines over the past few years (thanks to rise of the smartphone and the success of apps), another movement is under way in the living room — Internet-connected TV. Just as DVRs and on-demand programming have become the standard, soon we won’t be able to remember our TVs before they were web-enabled.

I am interested to follow the development and integration of connected television. Will it be as revolutionary as expected? Time will tell.

Resource: Internet Gains on Television as Public’s Main News Source via Pew Research.

The internet is slowly closing in on television as Americans’ main source of national and international news. Currently, 41% say they get most of their news about national and international news from the internet, which is little changed over the past two years but up 17 points since 2007.

Interesting that they don’t ask where on the Internet people get their news.
