Statistics: Reconnecting

Resource: 40% – Reconnecting Online

Though many online Americans worry about the amount of information available about them on the internet, and take steps to manage their online profile, many have also experienced the benefits of being socially available on the Web.

At some point in the future there will be no need for reconnecting. Connections will last a lifetime, whether we want them to or not.

Observation: Millennial’s Information Sharing

Contributed by Rick DeVan on July 9, 2010 at 4:30 pm ET

Resource: Millennials’ Likely Lifelong Online Sharing Habit

Some 67% agreed with the statement: “By 2020, members of Generation Y (today’s “digital natives”) will continue to be ambient broadcasters who disclose a great deal of personal information in order to stay connected and take advantage of social, economic, and political opportunities. Even as they mature, have families, and take on more significant responsibilities, their enthusiasm for widespread information sharing will carry forward.”

Although I agree in the abstract with this poll I am unclear on the volume of the information shared as the Millennials get older. People generally have more time when they are younger — or the young are very good time managers.

Please note the respondents to this survey were Internet experts and not the Millennial’s themselves. I would like to see a survey of the subjects and especially would like to see a comparison of older and younger Millennials.

Thriv’Able Special: Buy Local in NEO (and Anywhere Else)

Contributed by Rick DeVan on July 2, 2010 at 6:36 pm ET

Resource: Take the Buy Local Challenge during Buy Local Week, July 3 – July 10.

This is a great idea for Northeast Ohio and anywhere else you may live, IF you keep in mind that the big-box national/international retailers and restaurants also employ your neighbors and contribute to the local tax base.

Don’t forsake one neighbor for the other.

Thriv’Able Special: The Future Online

Contributed by Rick DeVan on at 4:58 pm ET

Resource: The Future of Online Socializing

The social benefits of internet use will far outweigh the negatives over the next decade, according to experts. They say this is because email, social networks, and other online tools offer “low friction” opportunities to create, enhance, and rediscover social ties that make a difference in people’s lives.

I am not one to try to predict the future, but I will venture a guess that the word “online” will be dropped from our vocabulary as being online is now just as common as, say, being in the living room.

Special: Mobile Music

An interesting article on music consumption. As with so many of our activities, music is mobile.

The same can be said for other types of entertainment, too.
