Resource: Path — The simple and private way to
share life with close friends & family.
Sounds like a good idea. The one Facebook friend that I have who is also on Path is, of course, someone I have never met in person. So… not sure this is going to work out too well for me — at least at this point.

Media: Social Media Fad or Not So Fad?
Contributed by Rick DeVan on May 8, 2011 at 9:31 am ET
Resource: Still Think Social Media Is A Fad? via One Lily Creative Agency.
An interesting infographic on social media use and statistics.
You may have heard or thought that social media is a fad only to hear rebuttals full of statistics and net worth to show that it is not a fad. There is something very subtle here that you may be missing. Social media, per se, in my opinion, is not a fad. It is a new method of communication, or more precisely, it is a new addition to our communications repertoire. That repertoire includes telephone, texting, television, radio, talking in person, newspapers (yes, printed newspapers), books, hieroglyphics, cave paintings, the whole gamut.
However, the way we use social media may be a fad. Think about it. Are you using social media the same now as two or three years ago? Remember a while back, everyone put their bra colors on Facebook to support breast cancer awareness? And, remember, when everyone just had to post a photo of the celebrity they think they look like? Those are fads. I have not seen one of those for a long time, except for Mother’s Day when users post Mom’s photo to their profile. That’s not a fad, it is a tribute.
We are beginning the maturation process in our use of social media, although not everyone will go through the process at the same rate and at the same time. That’s life. Do you use the phone at 40 the same way you used it at 14? Probably not.
But, I will bet you still use the phone.

Resource: PepsiCo to launch social vending machine via Reuters.
PepsiCo Inc is introducing a “social vending” machine that lets users buy each other drinks remotely, further proof that its decades-old rivalry with Coca-Cola Co is going ever-more high tech.
An interesting marketing concept for an interesting time.

“What our clients are struggling with is: How big a deal are social media and location-based services, and how much of it is just sound and fury?” says a senior VP of Applied Predictive Technologies, which runs data analytics for Starbucks and Subway.
Don’t fret. We are in our infancy. There is a lot of time to innovate, learn, and integrate.
