Resource: News Audience Goes Online via Pew Research.
In 2010, the internet was the only news sector to see an increase in its audience.
…
News organizations — old and new — still produce most of the content audiences consume. But each technological advance has added a new layer of complexity — and a new set of players — in connecting that content to consumers and advertisers.
Just my observation here… going online for news is much more effective than watching television news. I only needed to see the tornado hitting Tuscaloosa once to get the story and understand the impact. On television, I would have seen it thirty times in an hour. For me, at least, the repetition on television does not increase the impact. In fact, it may dull it.

Resource: Cash for Content Online via Pew Internet Research.
Nearly two-thirds of internet users (65%) have paid to download or access some kind of online content from the internet, ranging from music to games to news articles. Music, software, and apps are the most popular content that internet users have paid to access or download, although the range of paid online content is quite varied and widespread.
According to this survey, the typical user spends about $10.00 US per month for online content.
