Thriv’Ability: junaio 3.0 Augmented Reality Browser

Contributed by Rick DeVan on September 2, 2011 at 8:00 pm ET

Resource: junaio

The new scan feature is available immediately for developer use. The possibilities are quite limitless: with junaio, manufacturers could create interactive 3D Augmented Reality user manuals; scanning the product code of your latest piece of Swedish furniture could display easy-to-follow 3D assembly instructions; marketers can reach their mobile audience with exciting multimedia and dynamic AR displays; artists can enhance their creations with added effects as many already do; movie posters can display trailers and educators could use it to instantly call up information in the classroom..

As I am writing this — while, as I put it, “at coffee” — I can see at a least a dozen items this could be used for, from where the coffee comes from to finding out the price of gas at the station across the street (I can’t see the sign from where I am sitting).

Media: State-Approved Web Gambling

Resource: Starved Budgets Inspire New Look at Web Gambling via NYTimes.com.

The states say they will put safeguards in place to deal with the potential social ills. And they say they need the money from online play, which will supplement the taxes they already receive from gambling at horse tracks, poker houses and brick-and-mortar casinos.

There must be a better way.

Media: Listen

Contributed by Rick DeVan on August 12, 2011 at 8:00 pm ET

As I am writing this I am hearing the Doppler sounds of my next door neighbor’s lawnmower on a reasonably warm morning. Rain clouds are welcomely threatening. Of course, the scent of fresh mowed grass is coming indoors on the breeze. You know the scene.

Listen. I am not sure it can be learned, though. Possibly only experienced. And, listening is not something done only with the eardrums.

Media: Catching Killers Before They Act

Contributed by Rick DeVan on August 1, 2011 at 7:02 am ET

Resource: Could Google have caught the Norway killer? via The Sydney Morning Herald.

With all the data Google collects about us and our search histories, could the company use its technical prowess to help catch terrorists and mass murderers before they commit crimes?

Lots of room for debate and lots of room for knee-jerk reactions on this one, but this is a question we need to ask.
