Thriv’Ability: Global Mood
Contributed by Rick DeVan on October 7, 2011 at 8:00 pm ET
Resource: Twitter helps gauge global mood swings via The Sydney Morning Herald.
They found similarities that are independent of country, culture, or religion. People around the world tend to wake up happy but their mood deteriorates during the day, before rebounding later in the evening. Weekends bring a boost in good cheer but positive emotions decrease as the days shorten and winter approaches.
It will be interesting to see not just daily but annual and longer patterns in global mood.

The criminals who carry out romance scams typically use online dating sites or social networks to identify targets and devote time and effort to “grooming” them, according to the Serious Organised Crime Agency (Soca).
Resource: Fraud victims just don’t listen: police via The Sydney Morning Herald.
We as a society tend to say, they’re stupid or greedy, [but] anyone approached at the right time in their lives with right stories will be vulnerable to a fraud.
Most of us have fallen victim to a romantic lie or two in our lives. Not you, of course. Not me. Definitely not me. Other people. Sure. Only other people. They are the vulnerable ones.
No, we are all only human after all.
Realizing that may be the first step in helping friends who are victims of fraud.

Thriv’Ability: Boeing 787 Dreamliner
Contributed by Rick DeVan on at 3:20 pm ET
Resource: Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
In addition to bringing big-jet ranges to mid-size airplanes, the 787 provides airlines with unmatched fuel efficiency, resulting in exceptional environmental performance. The airplane uses 20 percent less fuel than today’s similarly sized airplanes. It will also travel at a similar speed as today’s fastest wide bodies, Mach 0.85. Airlines will enjoy more cargo revenue capacity.
Resource: First delivered Boeing 787 takes off for Japan via Reuters.
But many in the aviation world expect the Dreamliner, which provides unprecedented fuel efficiency and travelers’ comforts, to revolutionize commercial flight.
Also, 20 percent fewer emissions than similarly sized airplanes and 60 miles, yes, 60 miles, of copper wiring eliminated in the design.
